Rakanoth is the first boss of Act IV and must be killed in order to free Auriel. Rakanoth's design was originally used by the Blizzard North development team for Azmodan, but was changed at some unknown point in time by the current Diablo III development team.
Not much is known about Rakanoth outside of him once being a servant of Azmodan, having served alongside Cydaea and Ghom.
