In Diablo II, whenever a monster is killed it will leave behind it's corpse. The corpse can:
- Block doorways. If an enemy is killed in a doorway it will become a blocked doorway and can no longer be closed.
- Used for skills. Many Necromancer skills, such as Corpse Explosion require the use of a corpse.
All monsters will leave behind a corpse, except certain quest specific monsters (eg: Andariel) and monsters that were frozen, who will shatter upon their death, leaving only chuncks of ice which quickly fade away.
There is alos a "container" called a corpse, which can be searched and may reveal loot.
